We are pleased to provide a couple of updates from our participating Reciprocity Project teachers:

Will Miller, Math and Science Teacher at Academy at Charlemont.

Will Miller is the Science Teacher at The Academy at Charlemont in Charlemont, Massachusetts. Will is collaborating with teachers from Cambridge, Wisconsin; Burry Port, Wales; and Llanelli, Wales. Will wrote the following about his wonderful place-based project:

“I wanted to share a quick update to you about the sugaring project we’re working on, since connecting around local food stories was one of the ideas we had discussed in our first meeting.

We’ve been tapping trees, collecting sap (and lots of data), and boiling all week here, rain or shine. Kids are learning a lot about the process, from the biochemistry of the sap to the thermodynamics of rocket stove combustion and evaporation. Here are some pictures of the process, which has involved five classes and about 75 students”:

We are also pleased to share an introductory video from Anna Martin’s Primary 5 class at St. Brigid’s Primary School in Northern Ireland. Anna’s students are introducing themselves to students in Ms. Garzee’s class in Monmouth, Illinois!

Thanks to Will and Anna for sharing this good work! We hope to be highlighting more student-centered collaborations in the near future.
